A short color-word task designed to observe how quickly attention resolves a conflict between what a word says and the color in which it is shown.
The Stroop effect is one of the best-known demonstrations in experimental psychology. When the meaning of a color word conflicts with its displayed color, people usually take longer to respond. The delay is useful because it makes an otherwise invisible process visible: the mind has to inhibit the automatic habit of reading and give priority to a visual feature instead.
This online Stroop test uses that conflict as a compact benchmark for selective attention, processing speed, and the way a participant holds a color concept in mind while scanning a changing visual field.

The task asks the participant to maintain a chosen color as a word, then locate that same word when it appears in a specified display color.
Stroop-style tasks are often discussed in relation to attention control, response inhibition, and conflict monitoring in frontal brain networks.
John Ridley Stroop published his classic color-word interference paper in 1935. Since then, the Stroop task has become a standard tool for studying attention, cognitive interference, and the coordination of reading with visual perception.
